Science: Introduction to Matter and Chemistry: Students will learn about the Table of the Elements as well as chemical and physical properties and chemical reactions. Students will use triple beam balances to measure mass and graduated cylinders, beakers and syringes to measure volume. Earth Processes and Landforms: This unit involves a study of plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes as well as the reasoning for why earthquakes and volcanoes occur in certain regions. Students will also study erosion and deposition as it relates to the world’s land formations. Diversity of Life: Students will study the qualities of living and non-living things. Students will use microscopes to view microscopic organisms and compare single-celled to multi-celled organisms. Electricity: Electricity is the study of electrical and magnetic energy and circuitry. Students will become adept at using many tools including and wire strippers, wire cutters, and pliers. Health and Human Body: Students will learn about the three parts of health including mental-emotional, physical and social. Proper nutrition, personal hygiene, and certain parts of the body such as teeth, hair, skin, nails, the eye and ear will be studied this year. A more in depth system study occurs in 7th grade
