Mrs. Cloutier’s

Third Grade Class 2010-2011

Book Projects

Text Box: April 20, 2011

Congratulations! You have been chosen to be the first students to tour the solar system. You will be traveling to each of the eight planets (and researching Pluto which is now considered a dwarf planet) during this tour.

To prepare for your journey, you must learn key facts about each planet so you will know what to expect when you land.

You will be able to use the library and computers here at school to gather information for your project. Research can be done both at school and home. The completion of the project will be done at home.

Using your research, you will create an information booklet that will be published and shared with your classmates.

You will be graded on the following:

Completed and passed in on date due: Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

Booklet contains:
Front and back cover. A booklet will be passed out to you after the research is complete and we have conferenced.
Name, date, and title on booklet
1+ page for each planet (8). Plus an additional page for Pluto (1)
Illustration or picture of each planet. The last page should be designed creatively by you and illustrate your understanding of our unit on the Solar System.
Correct spelling and complete sentences
3+ facts about each planet (See Research Form). Extra credit will be given to those who include more than 3 facts.
No more than two planets my contain research from the Internet

** Please keep in mind that the facts collected for each planet must be written in your own words and must be facts that were unknown to you. Do not use Mercury is the first planet from the sun as one of your facts. Find facts that surprise you and make you think!!!!

** Once you have gathered all your facts, please conference with me prior to starting your information booklet.

The assignment should be neat, well organized, and show an understanding of the planets.

Please call if there are any questions or concerns. Thank you for your time and cooperation and enjoy the trip!!!
