ART

Primary School

Students in grades R-2 study the basic elements of art; line, shape, color, and texture. Classes are developmentally appropriate and an emphasis is placed on the use of a variety of mediums. Students will also learn the proper techniques used to employ these mediums. Often a seasonal/holiday theme or integration with core subjects is the basis to teach these concepts. Smocks are available in the art room for our budding Picassos!

Grading is done differently at each grade level. Students in 2nd grade receive a conduct and effort grade on their report card. Students in 1st grade receive a number grade (1,2, or 3) that encompasses the overall child. As readiness students are more interested in the process vs. the product, they are not graded. Classes meet once a week, all year, for 40 minutes a week.
