Firefighter’s challenge On a rainy day at AVS, firefighters challenge took place. Nick Jean and Hannah Mullaney came out on top for the obstacle challenge. The overall winners for homeroom were Mrs. O’Rourke with a great triumph. We talked to her a bit about her accomplishment. She said that her homeroom was great and their team, the Pink Panthers, will probably win again next year, and keep the shiny plaque they won. She was glad to share this with us; you might even call it bragging. The fire station also received a plaque for their seventy fifth anniversary. We were glad our school could celebrate it with them, and we can’t wait for next year! |

In the Spotlight
AVS School Newspaper was lucky enough to chat with Mrs. O’Rourke, a sixth grade teacher who is dearly beloved by all her students, past and present. Here what she had to say to us.
Do you like to teach? Yes I love children; I wanted to be either a teacher or a social worker.
Do you remember something significant about every class you have? I can’t say about every class as a whole, but almost every student has a trait that I remember.
Do you like your class this year? Yes. They are wonderful!
Do you have a cell phone? Yes, I practically live off of it.
Do you like sports? Yes I played lacrosse and field hockey in college. I like baseball too. The Red Sox and The Dolphins
Do you have a quote you live by? Not exactly a quote, more like a motto. I believe you always have to laugh, wake up laughing, go to bed laughing, it’s simple.
What’s a place you have always wanted to visit? I would have to say Rome, Italy.
Do you have any pets? Yes, I have a dog, a Shih Tzu named scruffy.
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Connecticut.
I heard your homeroom won Firefighters Challenge? Yes, we did, we might just be the most amazing homeroom in the school if I do say so myself. We have a nice plaque we get to keep until next year.
Do you think Mrs. Marcotte makes a good addition to the sixth grade team? Yes I do, she fits in very well, and it’s great to be working with her.
I thank Mrs. O’Rourke a bunch for letting me talk with her. It was sensational.
