Remember, all readers struggle with text, strong reader just know what to do when they are struggling. Now, you do too! Keep practicing!

What Do Good Readers Do?

Ø Have a purpose for reading – enjoyment!

Ø Think about what you already know about the book.

Ø Confused? Don’t understand? Re-read the paragraph.

Ø Study the cover of the book - what can you learn about it?

Ø Read the summary on the back of the book – get a sneak preview!

Ø Make predictions – it’s ok to be wrong!

Ø Visualization – form pictures in your mind.

Ø Draw conclusions.

Ø Use context clues to figure out the meaning of unfamiliar words.
