About Us

Mrs. Gannon’s Web Page Guidance 5-8

The Guidance Department at Auburn Village School consists of  Peter DiZoglio, responsible mainly for R-4th grades, Sue Gannon for grades 5-8, and our School Psychologist. We are currently working in conjunction with the State of NH   and American School Counseling Association’s guidelines for creating a comprehensive guidance program at Auburn Village School that adequately addresses the needs of our students in this day and age. You will be hearing more about this process as it continues to evolve.

In fifth and sixth grades we use an elementary school curriculum called, "Conflict Resolution." Weekly lessons include information about conflict in our lives. understanding feelings, listening skills, appreciating others and how to resolve conflicts through communication skills.

New this year, Risk Watch, which are lessons  being taught in all Fifth Grade classrooms about safety.

In seventh grade, we are learning about stress, the effects on individuals and how to relieve stress in our lives.

We are also working on understanding  Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences and how every child learns best.

Project Safeguard is also a workshop available to seventh grade students and parents.

In Seventh grade, we begin with "career futures" where every student has the opportunity to take an interest survey and research a  career of their choice.

We are also working on “ The Real Game” which is a simulation game about the world of work.

Peer Mediation:

Mediation is a process of resolving disputes and conflicts with the help of a neutral third party. Mediation allows disputing parties to bring their problems to the mediation. This year we have peer mediators working along with advisors, who listen to students' problems. Mediation is open to students in grades 3-8. Everyone is invited to fill out a form to ask for a mediation if they want to solve their problem. Some conflicts may not be appropriate for mediation and those conflicts are sent to our administration.

Project Safeguard:

A federally funded program that brings parent and child together for a day of workshops. The workshops are meant to be informative and helpful to both parent and child as we chart one way through middle school adolescence. Learn more about Project Safeguard when your child is in seventh grade.
